Rosemary Ann “Posey” Sloan, 100, of Indianapolis, Indiana, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Hospice Center in Indianapolis, where she had been a patient for two days.
The daughter of Bernard and Mary O’Donnell Sloan, she was born December 31, 1916, in Bryan, Ohio.
As a child, she lived in northern Ohio but moved as a teenager to Syracuse, New York, where she graduated from St. Lucy’s Academy. Following business school, she was employed at General Motors in Syracuse and served as the executive secretary for the plant manager
for almost 35 years.
For five decades, Posey made frequent trips to Connersville to visit the large family of her first cousin, Elizabeth McCarthy Luking, who had grown up in Syracuse and to whom she was very close. Never married and with no children of her own, Posey was considered a beloved aunt by the Luking children, on whom she doted.
After retiring from General Motors, she lived in the Detroit area before moving to Indianapolis, where she was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
Posey was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and loved all things having to do with Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Elizabeth Luking, among other cousins.
Survivors include Laura Luking Jamison and Margaret Luking, both of Indianapolis, who were her loving caregivers for many years, along with Laura’s husband Peter Jamison and their children, Michael Jamison and Elizabeth Escoffery. Among other surviving cousins are Connersville residents Mary Anne Morris, Beth Luking, Gene Luking, Joe Luking, Charlene Wood, Posey’s namesake Rosemary Card, and their children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dustin Boehm officiating. Burial will be in Springersville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228.
