Ronald Z. Stone, 62, of Laurel, died Sunday evening, March 5, 2012, in the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health System.
Ron was born in Batesville, August 25, 1949, to J. Burt and Lona Messer Stone. He was a 1968 graduate of Connersville High School and attained the rank of staff sergeant while serving in the U.S Army as a Green Beret. Ron had attended Ivy Tech, I.U. East and Earlham College to earn accreditation as a drug therapist. He had also been employed at Design and Manufacturing for nineteen years and Valeo in Greensburg. Ron was an elite member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed computers and tv games. His dog “Samantha” was his constant companion. Ron’s most enjoyment came from being with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by five children: Ragena J. Crawley and her husband, Anthony; Ronald Joseph Stone and his fiancé, Reneé Gough, all of Connersville; twin daughters and their husbands: Rachel E. Loman and Brian; Rebecca L. Ladd and Kevin, all of Laurel; Danielle M Stone of Rushville; eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Stone and a grandson, Johnathan T. Harrison, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Richard Ware of Higher Praise Worship Center officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Sunday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the National Rifle Association.
