Robert L. Poe, 70, of Connersville, died Tuesday evening, March 13, 2012, at Fayette Regional Health System.
Bob was born May 20, 1941 in Everton to Harley W. and Lillian Allen Poe and was a 1959 graduate of Harrisburg High School. In 1963, he entered the U.S. Army where he served as a military policeman stationed in Saigon during the Viet Nam War. Bob was employed as a sales representative/Branch Manager at Innovative Distributor Group and its predecessor, Fayette Distributors for 39 years. He had also worked at Mosler Safe in Hamilton, Ohio. He was a member of many area fraternal organizations, including the Connersville Jaycees, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Orange Lodge #234, F.& A.M, and Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. Bob most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and could often be found at their sporting events. His leisure time was often spent traveling with his wife and friends, golfing and fishing.
Bob is survived by his wife, the former Sara A. Funk whom he married February 19, 1966, Connersville; two children and their spouses: Kelly Gibson and Keith of Connersville; Christopher T. Poe and Michele of Greenville; six grandchildren: Gabriel, Bryce and Noah Gibson; Brayden, Caleb and Landen Poe; six siblings and their spouses: Jerry K. Poe of Dallas, Texas; Pat Culley of Indianapolis, Linda K. Mills and Kenneth of Connersville, Fred Poe and Kathy of Dallas, Texas; Gregory K. Poe and Cheryl; Sherry D. Poe, all of Hamilton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Bob’s parents preceded him in death.
Public graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Dale Cemetery, section L, with Rev. Gene Spicer, Fayette Regional Health System chaplain officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Bob requested no visitation in hopes that all his beloved family, good friends, acquaintances, and former co-workers keep him in memory by recalling all the good, happy and fun times he has had with each and all.
