Lucille L. Widdows, 87, of Connersville, died Monday evening, December 22, 2014, at her residence.
Lucille was a native of Louisiana, born in Jonesville on February 16, 1927 to Wilbur and Eunice Canfield Ledford. She graduated from Bolton High School in Alexandria, and following her marriage there in 1946 to Claire C. Widdows, she moved to Liberty, where she remained a resident for most of her adult life. Lucille was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Liberty. She also had co-owned and operated The Little Villager women’s apparel store there. She was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Connersville Country Club. Lucille was also a member of the Connersville Rotary Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, and the ADOU Literary Club.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Nancy Grover and her husband, James of Pittsburgh, PA; two sons: Joel L. Widdows of Jacksonville, Florida, and Wesley H. Widdows of Connersville; her grandson: Andrew Claire Widdows of Columbus, Ohio; her longtime companion: Robert “Bob” Hassler of Connersville; three nieces and four nephews.
In addition to her parents and two sisters, Lucille is preceded in death by her husband, Claire, who was the former President of Stant Manufacturing in Connersville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. James R. Orr officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Claire and Lucille Widdows Excellence in Music Scholarship Fund, in care of the Union County Foundation, 404 Eaton Street, Liberty, Indiana 47353.
