Jane Adair Hamilton Brichford, 91, of Urbana passed away Wednesday, October 14. Jane was born November 3, 1923 in Connersville Indiana, the only child of Chester and Gertrude Elliott Hamilton. She graduated from Everton High School in Everton, Indiana, and from Indiana State University. She taught in the Fayette County, Indiana, school system for five years before moving to Madison, Wisconsin, where she earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Home Economics Education and met her husband, Maynard Brichford, whom she married in September, 1951. Thereafter she was a homemaker and mother, and an active participant in many community organizations, including the PTA, Church Women United, The League of Women Voters, and 4H. Among other activities, she served as a poll judge and a reading tutor, delivered meals on wheels, and cooked for the Homeless Shelter. She enjoyed music, reading and her extensive travels in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Central America, and hosted international students from several countries.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt: Maize Jane Elliott. Jane is survived by her husband, four children: Charles Brichford and wife, Annette of Princeton, West Virginia; Ann Martin and husband, Jim of Beloit, Wisconsin; Matthew Brichford and wife, Leslie Jacobs of Connersville, Indiana; Sarah Brichford and husband, Jack Johnson of Russiaville, Indiana; former daughter-in-law Kristina Lewis; eleven grandchildren: Connie, Sofia, Amelia and Elliott Brichford; Colin Martin and Alina Martin; Miah, Maize, and Eliza Jacobs-Brichford; Neil Johnson and Cora Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Aidan Martin.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Connersville with Pastor Doug Barton officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery, Connersville . Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Community Sharing Food Pantry, 2140 Indiana Avenue, Connersville or to Fayette County 4-H, 401 Central Avenue, Connersville. Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, is assisting with the local arrangements.
