Inez Lucile (Meek) Maple, 93, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Reid Health in Connersville.
She was born in Connersville, on February 8, 1929 to Clarence and Bertha (Hammer) Meek. On February 14, 1947, Inez married Francis Maple in a double wedding ceremony with their lifelong friends Kenny and Thelma Zimmerman. Inez and Francis were blessed with 53 years together until he passed away on July 18, 2000. She was employed at the News Examiner for 31 years, starting as a Retail Ad Sales person before being promoted to Retail Ad Manager. She became National Ad Manager in 1976. Inez also served as State Secretary from 1971-1986 for Indiana Newspaper Advertising Executives Assoc. She held memberships in the American Legion Auxillary (69 years) Serving 2 terms as president, Red Hat Scarlett Strutters, and the Senior Center. She formerly belonged to Altrusa Club and Phi Chi Epsilon Sorority. Inez was president and secretary of the Downtown Merchants Association when it was active. She was on many committees sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. She always looked forward to helping plan and attend her class reunions and always enjoyed socializing wherever she went. Inez was an avid reader, loved watching IU, Butler, Purdue, and Pacers basketball, playing Bingo, being with family, and hosting numerous dinners and parties.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene Sparks, a son, Timothy W. Maple ( Pamela) of Connersville; six grandchildren: Jeff (Angie) Borgerding of Springfield, Ohio, Mike (Monica) Borgerding of Whiteland, Indiana, Cyndi (Andrew) Jordan of Liberty, Indiana, Melissa (Andrew)Rose, Christina Maple (fiancé Kevin Birgel) Jordan Maple (fiancé Hannah Crank) of Connersville; eight great grandchildren: Keristan(Zachery) Rowe, Ryann and Cooper Borgerding, Kalin and Easton Baumbauer, Israel Rose, Leah Rush, Wrenley Maple, one great grandson: Kaleb Rowe. Three nieces: Melody Weber, Betty Kendall, Lisa Crank; Several great nieces including Tara Lea; great nephew: Wes (Becky) Lea; two great-great nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; six siblings; her daughter: Cynthia L. Maple who died in 1972.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery, section A.
Friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
