Harold E. Abernathy, 83, of Liberty died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Reid Health in Richmond.
Harold was born at home on the farm in Liberty on January 18, 1933, to Robert and Ruth Steins Abernathy. On January 5, 1952, Harold married the love of his life, Emma L. Wehrley, in Billingsville. He was employed as a farmer all his life. Harold was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ, Sons of the American Legion, the Eagles in Brookville, and the Moose Lodge of Connersville. He also served as past president of the Sims Cemetery Board. Harold enjoyed being with his family, working, farming, and watching NASCAR and sports.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, Harold is survived by a son: Terry Abernathy and his wife, Brenda of Liberty; two granddaughters and their spouses: Anya Pinkerton and Kevin of Liberty and Stacey Bruns and Andy of Brookville; five great-grandchildren: Tyler and Taylor Pinkerton, and Chase, Brooke, and Dylan Bruns; and several nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rodger, Richard, and Gerald Abernathy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty with Rev. Scott Bell of the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sims Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, where memorial contributions may be made to the Sims Cemetery Association.
