Goldie O’Neal, 84, of Connersville, died Monday morning, July 21, 2014 at her residence.
A native of Kentucky, Goldie was born February 9, 1930 to Mallie and Latisha Gibson and lived most of her life in Connersville. She was married November 16, 1961 in Kentucky to Chester O’Neal, Jr. Together they built Lincoln Manor and Lincoln Lodge Nursing Centers which they operated for many years. Goldie dedicated much of her life as the nursing home administrator, offering superior care to patients and residents. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Goldie also enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time on their boat. She liked to watch the birds that came to feed at her home and liked to spend time at their Florida home. Goldie was a former member of Altrusa and had previously operated a beauty shop.
Goldie is survived by her husband of over 52 years; her son: Kelley O’Neal of Connersville; her grandson: Zachary Tyler O’Neal of Connersville; her granddaughter: Ashley Marie O’Neal of Connersville; her great-grandson: Steven Carson DeGroat; her sister: Sue Davidson and her husband, Russ of Louisville, Kentucky; her brother: George Gibson and his wife, Liz of Kissimmee, Florida; sister-in-law: Kay Gibson of Connersville; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Goldie was preceded in death by two brothers: Carol Gibson and Elwood Gibson; four sisters: Jeanne Merrick, Lonnie Frazier, Clara Gorham, Judy Karen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel Connersville, with Pastor Mal Gibson, Goldie’s nephew, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Thursday until the time of service where memorial contribution may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate).
