Gertrude Caldwell

Longtime Connersville resident, Gertrude “Trudy” Caldwell, 83, died Monday, December 6, 2021 at her residence. Trudy was born to Elmer and Dahlia Marcum Sparks on April 1, 1938 in McKee, Kentucky. When she moved to Connersville, Trudy was employed with the Maranella Restaurant, Simpkins Farms in Glenwood, D & M, and most recently the former Fayette Memorial Hospital in the dietary department from which she retired in 2016 after many years of service. Trudy was active in the Windjammer CB Club, and was a member of the Eagles. In her early days, she loved to go dancing at the various clubs in Connersville. Trudy enjoyed cleaning and working in her yard. She adored cooking for her family; everyone loved her fried chicken and her chicken and dumplings. Trudy is survived by her son: Jeff Sizemore and his wife Evelyn of Connersville; brothers: Donnie Sparks, Darrell Sparks, both of McKee, Kentucky, Gary Sparks of London, Kentucky; sisters: Aileen Bennett of laurel, Thelma Sparks, Nollie Hatfield both of London, Kentucky; grandchildren: Abigail Sizemore, Sarah Lacey and her husband Jake of Connersville, Jeanette Harris and her husband Quinton of Knightstown, Erica Davis and her husband Cory of North Vernon, Tyler Massey of Richmond Indiana; great-grandchildren: Julian, Piper, Brennen, Morgan, Samantha, Tyler; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Trudy is preceded in death by her husband: Bill Wilson; second husband: John “Snook” Caldwell; long-term companion: Robert Sams; brothers: Gerald Sparks, Harold Sparks, Paul Sparks, Raymond Sparks, Ralph Sparks, Ivan sparks, Virgil Sparks; sisters: Edna Moore, Avenell Riebsomer. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Eric Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the E.W. Tatman Children’s Christmas Fund in Trudy’s honor.
