Eldon A. Brown, 91, of the Liberty community, died Thursday evening, September 17, 2015, at the Knolls of Oxford in Oxford, Ohio.
Eldon was a native of Whitley County, born May 13, 1924 to Ernest V. and Erma Goodrich Brown. In 1942, he graduated from Larwill High School in Whitley County. Eldon proudly served in the Merchant Marines, traveling the world during WWII. On April 21, 1946, Eldon married the former Audrey J. Cox at the First United Methodist Church in Connersville. They resided in the Alquina community before moving to the Dunlapsville area. Eldon retired as the maintenance superintendent at H.H. Robertson, Connersville and had also been employed as the maintenance foreman at Philco in Connersville. He enjoyed fishing and working on all the many projects around his farm. Eldon enjoyed music and played many string instruments including the banjo, mandolin, violin, tenor and bass guitars. He was a member of the Model A and Model T Car Clubs where he pursued his hobby restoring classic and antique cars. Eldon once built a car from spare parts that became known as the ‘Eldon Mobile.' Eldon always stayed busy. He and Audrey built a total of seven houses together in their spare time.
In addition to his wife of over 69 years, Audrey, Eldon is survived by his daughter: Susan McCarty of Cincinnati, Ohio; his son-in-law: Henry “Hank” Fallat of the Liberty area; his grandchildren and their spouses: Ryan McCarty and Goldie of Shutesbury, Massachusetts; Stephen McCarty and Tracy of South Pasadena, California; Andrew Fallat and Kari of Seattle, Washington; Elizabeth Fallat of Liberty; two great-grandchildren: Sophie McCarty and Sybil Fallat; several nieces and nephews.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, his son: Tom Brown, his daughter: Rebecca Fallat; two sisters: Lucile Bohnstedt and Faye Keefer; and two brothers: Walter and Lewis Brown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Interment with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery Garden of Memories in Fayette County. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Tuesday until the time of service.
