Edith K. Powell, 98, of Connersville, died early Tuesday morning, September 3, 2019, at Reid Health in Richmond. A Union County native, Edith was born March 5, 1921 to Louis and Margaret Irma Dinwiddie Kolb. In 1939, she graduated from McGuffey High School in Oxford, Ohio and attended classes at Miami University. Edith married Charles E. Powell on December 21, 1939 in Richmond. They were members of Central Christian Church. They purchased an eighty-two acre farm in Fayette County in 1946 where they raised ponies, turkeys, hogs and cattle. They also owned and operated Pal’s Miniature Golf in Connersville for eighteen years. Edith was an accomplished seamstress and cherished the time she spent with her family. She was an excellent Mother that was recognized as the “Matriarch” of the family. Edith is survived by her children and their spouses: Thomas L. Powell and Mary of Rossville, Kay French of Cape Coral, Florida; Judy Powell, James C. Powell and Linda, all of Connersville; her brother: Herman Kolb and his wife, Velma of Rossburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Munn of Loveland, Colorado; Bryan Powell of St. Petersburg, Florida; Susan Massie of N. Ft. Myers, Florida; Troy Powell of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mark Stevens of Fort Myers, Florida; Mindy Rosenberger of Fishers and Jamey Rose of Connersville. fourteen great-great-grandchildren: Michelle Lay, Jacquie Booton, Cole Powell, Dillon Massie, Logan Massie, Riley Stevens, Morgan Stevens, Hunter Stevens, Mackenzie Gettinger, Alexia Crutchfield, Dalton Rosenberger, Maddey Rose, Molly Rose, Grant Rose; four great-great-grandchildren Katelyn Lay, Caleb Lay, Graham Booton, and Corie Booton; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband who died May 4, 2002, an infant granddaughter: Pandora Stevens; her siblings: Karl Kolb and Helena Keeler. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2019, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Pastor Ryan Phelps of the New Heights Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery, section A.
