Anna Cornett Holliday, 84, of Connersville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Tuesday night, July 5, 2016.
A native of Knott County, Kentucky, Anna was born at their family home, September 24, 1931 to Oscar and Orica Smith Cornett, the third of five children. Anna graduated from Hindman Settlement School in Hindman, Kentucky and briefly attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. On June 29, 1960, Anna married Alexander H. Holliday. Anna was employed with Fayette County School System for twenty years as a librarian at Maplewood Elementary School. Anna devoted her life to her entire family, she especially adored babies.
Anna is survived by her children: Nancy Dalrymple; Charles Holliday and his wife, Becky; Margaret Holliday; her brother: Danial Scott Cornett and his wife, Wanda; her sister: Avinell Smith; her grandchildren: Jason, Jocelyn, Paige, Tanner, Amy, Alexandra, Julia, Sara, Samuel, Sarah, Michelle; her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Brooklyn, Michael, Ember, Miguel and Alexander. Anna is also survived by 3 step-children: David Holliday, Joanna Hornsby, Faye Siedling; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her honorary daughter: Linda Kalkhoff also survives, she was more than Anna’s caretaker for the last 3 years she also became her best friend.
Anna is preceded in death by her parents: Oscar and Orica Smith Cornett; her husband: Alex Holliday; step-daughters: Frances Holliday Abernathy and Alma Deaton Gabbard; her sisters: Florine Gibson and Jeanette Tomlin; nephew: Ricky Tomlin and niece: Erma Dean Tomlin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. A private family graveside will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Public Library, Children’s Section.
