Alta I. Dwiggins

Alta I. Dwiggins, 96, of Liberty died early Tuesday morning, May 10, 2016 at Whitewater Commons Senior Living. Alta was born July 16, 1919 in Preble County, Ohio and attended area schools. Alta was married April 24, 1956 to Floyd M. “Dwiggie” Dwiggins in Rushville, Indiana. Together, Alta and Floyd owned and operated Dwiggie’s Restaurant for fourteen years. From 1975 until 1981, Alta was a volunteer member of the local Emergency Medical Technician Unit. Alta was then employed at AID Ambulance, Richmond, until her retirement. Alta was a member of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. Alta is survived by four children: Randy, Jan, Dallas and Patricia; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Alta is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, who died March 22, 2004; four brothers and one grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Interment will follow in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, Indiana. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
